Wing Yui and Doris's Newsletter 2016

We have just come back from a trip to Hong Kong where Wing Yui received his Ph.D. in Chinese History at the Hong Kong University graduation ceremony.  Thank God he was able to complete his studies in less than 3 years with the help of many brothers and sisters, and financial support from our daughter Charissa.  Our trip was accompanied by Charissa, her younger son, and Joshua’s younger son, Jacob (the miracle boy who survived after his mother died at his birth).  It was a joyous and memorable occasion and Wing Yui has indeed made history by graduating at age 70!  His dissertation is on Leslie Lyall and the strategy of the China Inland Mission, and how it has impacted on today’s Chinese churches.  His studies led him to read moving stories after stories of the missionaries who sacrificed their lives for Christ to bring the Gospel to China.  May we continue to be inspired by their lives and not forget to dedicate our lives to serving Him with our utmost.

Wing Yui's new book A Psalm a Day, published by Ming Dao Press, has come out into the market this year.  It is a devotional book catering to the needs of those who want to have a consistent daily devotion.  Volume one covers Psalm 1 to 72 while Volume two, to be out in April 2017, covers Psalm 73 to 150.  He is currently writing a book on Job.

We continue to serve as volunteers at the San Francisco Evangelical Free Church.  Wing Yui preaches 5 times a month, teaches adult Sunday school, leads a Bible study fellowship, has a program to reach out to the people in Chinatown and leads the staff meeting, since they still don’t have a senior pastor yet.  Every week, he has 2 radio programs to broadcast to the Chinese people in the Bay Area.  One is on論盡人生 and the other is 愛、回家.  Starting January 2017, he will start a new series on 百年中國 – 風雲人物 to replace 愛、回家.  In the past years, these programs attracted some to come to the church and they have become Christians.  We pray that these ministries will continue to bring more people to seek Christ.

Doris is responsible for the Christian Education ministry in the church and training teachers to teach others.  She continues to take care of the grandkids during weekdays and goes to work in her private practice on Saturdays.  Now that both grandkids go to school, she finds some time to write.

The bible study group at our house has grown to 30 people.  In addition to our weekly bible study, we have started a worship after the bible study.  We were all excited to witness a seeker in our group accepting Christ recently.

Both grandkids are doing well.  Ryan is 8 and Jacob is 5 – can’t believe that 5 years have gone by since their mother passed away.  Ryan still misses his mother very much and becomes sad whenever mom is mentioned.  Ryan is very athletic and won many prizes competing in Jiujitsu (a kind of Kung Fu).  Jacob is a sentimental child but is very sociable.  They love Yeh Yeh and Ma Ma, and love to sleep over in our house whenever their Dad goes on a business trip.

We are very thankful to God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon our family.  It is the grace of God that we can still serve Him.  Psalm 127:1-2 reminds us that we need to be humble and live a thankful life:    “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.  In vain, you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat --- for He grants sleep for those he loves.”

We love to hear from you.  May God bless you with a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
